Pink
Hearts, Not Pink Slips Presentation:
Select this link to
view the VCTA's presentation to the BOE on June
14th. On this night, 11 retirees, 11 twenty-five
year veterans & 24 tenure recipients were honored.
However, 31 teachers, 30 paraprofessionals and 1
secretary lost their jobs this year. Nutrition,
maintenance, technology and administration also lost
positions this year due to the loss of state and
federal support for public education. We encourage
everyone to support the Jobs Bill. Read the BOE
presentation to learn more about this important
legislation. |

Debbie
Calvino Named New York State Teacher of the
Year:
SUNY New Paltz's 2008 recipient of the
Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching has also
been named the 2010 NYS Teacher of the Year. We
are all excited for Debbie, the VCTA and
District and the area. Debbie is the first
Mid-Hudson teacher to receive this award in its
forty year history. Debbie is an energetic and
compassionate teacher whose actions embody our
logo's words: Putting Children Center.
Debbie also mentors and trains colleagues and is
a great union advocate, recognizing the truth of
our slogan: There are no greater advocates
for children and education than teachers and
teacher unions. Select the above link to
read NYSUT's accolades. Read the VCTA's articles
